The Power of SRL

Part of my research has been self-regulated learning (SRL). The massive conversion to blended learning has created quite the controversy, understandably so. As an educational technologist you may think I am 100% pro-online virtual learning. Let me assure you, I am not. I am 100% pro-student-centered learning which may or may not include technology. I am also 100% pro-technology integration with efficacy and proper planning. One of the greatest failures in integrating technology over the past two years has been proper training on how and when to infuse the technology into curriculum and providing the skills to teachers and students to use the technology. The fundamental skill needed to use technology is self-regulation. Both teachers and students need to understand and practice SRL for technology to be effective.

We are so fortunate at FRSD to have passionate and dedicated educators and parents that nurture SRL. I've seen SRL woven throughout lessons and curriculum which has provided our students with many advantages over other school districts. If you would like to learn more about SRL, please watch the presentation and workshop I conducted with TRETC in January: https://youtu.be/aly8Zz66Dh0
